We're not sure what possesses all of us who live in the flat land of the Lowcountry to run over the one man-made "hill" we have in beautiful Charleston, SC, but once a year we gather together and call it "fun"! Close to 40,000 people join in on this local tradition that we call the Cooper River Bridge Run! It's a great event for a challenge for the body and an adrenaline rush as you run in the sea of heads up and over the bridge from Mount Pleasant to historic downtown Charleston!
Last year Tilahun Regassa of Ethiopia finished the race in 28:24 minutes! Don't think that's all that impressive? I remember as they were about to send our group off to cross the Start line was when we heard he crossed the Finish line! If you're not interested in running the race, you might consider the opportunity to cheer us on from the sidelines, volunteer to hand out water or if it was me, I'd probably get up extra early to get a good view to watch the finish line that is stormed by those who run so effortlessly over the finish line!
Come out this Saturday, March 27th and enjoy a day of festivities! And if you missed this year - don't forget to mark this tradition on your calendar for 2011!
